and just like that, we come to the end of another year.
it hardly seems likely.
yet most probable.
and when we began this year, i quite took to this idea of choosing a word.
a word to roll around with, play with. . . focusing more on the being rather than the doing.
and, of course, most of you cannot know how important that distinction is for me.
UNFURL was my word for this past year,
and i picked it as much for its feel
as for its meaning.
how it felt and moved
the images it produced. . .
an utterly bared soul.
but walking right along 'side that
were sails wide open
full of the very breath of God
receiving the richest of mercy and grace
all power and energy and push
to glide me thru the waters of life.
what a year it was.
well, it was dramatic, and it was soul-searching and
it was life changing and all those things it should be and
it most certainly was as serious as a word like UNFURL
should be but it also makes me want to giggle as, in fact,
i do whenever i talk about it too much,
BUT again, what an amazing year it has been.
and God completely undid me in the unfurling.
{and that IS no laughing matter, if i even dared}
but now. . .
but now--now it comes time to say "good-bye."
and time to pick another word
to welcome the coming year.
and it's only being
all bare-behind naked with not even shame left for a covering
that i can fully embrace this next cloak He gently drapes over me::
fearless: to cast all my cares upon HIM.
fearless: to be anxious for nothing.
fearless: to be content in ALL circumstances.
fearless: to no longer attempt to control outcomes . . . that i cannot.
fearless: to write authentically, honestly, for HIS purposes.
fearless: to accept His delight in me.
fearless: to show that delight to others around me.
and so i welcome the new year. and wish you a "happy" one as well. whatever that quite means? rather, i wish you a "well" one. that you would be well within our Lord. well within your soul.
2013? bring it on. i am ready. . . whatever it may hold. {you hear the fearless in me talking already, right? . . .}
reflecting upon the blessings of these past months. there have been so many::
468. truth upon truth, shown through family, friends, and the teaching of the Word.
469. the community of our homeschooling tutorial that we participate in. priceless friendships that endure.
470. job stability when so many are experiencing hardship.
471. the ability to give of various resources.
472. hubby & kids who remind me each and every day why i love life so much.
473. a long-awaited visit from my sister for the Christmas holiday.
474. anticipation of relief from pain.
475. friends who bless me with their generosity in ways that i am so not gifted :-)
sharing this post with friends over at Jen's and Ann's this week.
Collected Years

Unfurl! I love that! Last year my One Little Word was Releasing... I picked mine much for the same reason - I liked the sound and the feel of it... I am pondering the word that chose me this year - not quite sure what it means... I found you via the 365Community and can't wait to see how Fearless continues to unfurl in your life! Happy (and WELL) 2013!
ReplyDeletethanks so much for stopping by, karrilee!
Deletethe unfurling of fearless--somehow, i do think the two will be intertwined.
will try to stop by and see what your word for the year is.
blessings!

I love the word 'unfurl' and the immediate thoughts it provokes. Last year my word was 'persevere'. Honestly, I wasn't too happy when God put it on my heart. I mean, really... :) Oh, but the things He enabled me to persevere in and through! This year, you and I are sharing a word... Fearless. It's an area I struggle with, so it will be exciting (and a little scary?!) to see what God has for me. I look forward to seeing where God takes you as well!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower via SDG.
Blessings to you ~ Mary
hi, mary!
Deleteyes, it has me a bit worried, too, this word. i am anticipatory, though. we will walk in it together, yes?
happy new year!

I am new to blog here today...sailing over from SDG....and I am so curious as to what your last year held. It being an amazing year, I guess I will have to do some digging to find out. I love your old word and your new one, too. I never could decide on one word last year. And well...I didn't know it but that would picture my year...one unimaginable. Mine, too, has been quite a year. Thanks for leading the way in being fearless.
ReplyDeletethanks for coming over, kathleen. and thank you for your words. "fearless" holds a different anticipation than last year's did. i definitely don't feel a kinship with it. honestly--more like dread at this point! but onward we go, one step at a time, i'm thinking.
Deleteblessings to you in this new year,
steph
Stopping by from the SDG link up. Wow--'fearless'--now that's a powerful word. Open and ready to receive--it will be exciting to see what God does with your 'word' this year.
ReplyDeleteI love how you defined what fearless would look like in the coming year. This really inspires me to do the same thing for my One Word, too. Thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteOooh-fearless! I look forward to reading how that word takes shape in your life this year! I really enjoyed how you shared the unfurling in your life in 2012.
ReplyDeleteOoh - what a brave word! Exciting, too. I also like how you defined it. Sometimes I have to be fearless to just rest in him - to just let go. That takes courage. Looking forward to walking it with you, friend!
ReplyDeleteFearless! Excited to walk this journey with you! Blessings my friend.
ReplyDeleteShouting for you! Cheering you on!! I love it and am excited for you.
ReplyDelete(Unfurl is totally rad, too. Unfurl! I can practically see it from here...)
Great word for 2013. My word is epiphany. I'm excited to see God revealed in new and exciting ways in the coming year!
